Qur'an 4:128
And if a woman fears from her husband contempt or evasion, there is no sin upon them if they make terms of settlement between them - and settlement is best. And present in [human] souls is stinginess. But if you do good and fear Allah - then indeed Allah is ever, with what you do, Acquainted

The truth is that when any individual or group tries to achieve any goal, he finds himself in a set of situations which may be called the status quo.
Now there are two starting points for him. One is to seek to change the status quo by removing the roadblock for further action. The other is to accept the status quo as it is and to make concerted efforts to avail of the opportunities which are already available in the given status quo. This second approach is what I call ‘positive status quoism’. This is in accordance both with reason and with the teachings of Islam. The Quran enjoins: “Reconciliation is the best. (4:128) That is, the best way to settle a conflict is to follow the policy of reconciliation. In other words, conflicts are best resolved by the contending parties avoiding confrontation and by coming to a mutual understanding.
This suggestion to build better relations between India and Pakistan through acceptance of the status quo is not a new one. As long ago as the early 1960s, during the rule of Jawaharlal Nehru, the governments of both the countries had…
Reconciliation is Better
The Quran addresses people that in a dispute reconciliation rather than confrontation is the best course of action. (4:128) It is common in life that conflict arises between individuals. In such situations, there are two possible ways for people. One is to try to resolve it through confrontation and violence, and the other is to seek reconciliation through peaceful negotiations, thus putting an end to the conflict at an early stage.
It is a fact that the policy of reconciliation brings benefits to both sides. The method of conflict always produces the opposite result. It will only serve to deepen mutual hatred. And so far as the real problem is concerned, it can never…
Positive spirituality is mentioned as follows in the Quran: “You are on the sublime character.” (68:4). Sublime character is that character which is based on high thinking.
If you read the Quran, you will find that it lays great emphasis on sabr (39:10), sulh (4:128), forgiveness (42:40), avoidance (7:199), contentment, and so on. Why all these teachings? These teachings apparently seem to advocate passivity. But that is not so, for they embody great wisdom. The Quran tries to build that kind of mind which is able to manage all the affairs of life on the basis of spirituality. It is not passivity that is advocated but skill in the proper management of life’s problems. The purpose of this formula—indeed, it is the Quran’s greatest concern—is to concentrate on high goals and one who wants to achieve high goals has no option but to foster the aforementioned qualities. He has to try to effectively manage all undesirable situations. Otherwise, he will become preoccupied by trivial issues and will fail to continue his journey towards higher goals.
In the chapter Al-Shams (The Sun) of the Quran, you will find these verses: “He who purifies it will indeed be successful, and he who corrupts it is sure to fail.” (91:9-10). These Quranic verses refer to the importance of personality…
…whatsoever between them. According to the Quranic scheme, the same world culture is required of mankind also. In the chapter Al-Nisa’ (Women) the Quran gives guidelines on this subject. The translation of the relevant verse is as follows:
If a woman fears ill-treatment or indifference on the part of her husband, it shall be no offence for her to seek a reconciliation, for reconciliation is best. But people are prone to selfish greed. If you do good and fear Him, surely God is aware of what you do. (4:128)
Here, the Quran enjoins us to adopt the policy of reconciliation in controversial matters. The immediate context of this verse is the resolution of husband-wife differences, but the Quran, by giving a particular reference, gives a general…
…is the task of the man and woman themselves. If you follow the principle of nature in this matter, your marriage will surely be a successful marriage. If you do not follow this principle of nature your marriage will be doomed to failure.
What is that principle of nature? It is adjustment. This principle has been mentioned in the Quran in these words: As-sulh khair. That is, “Reconciliation is the best.” (4:128) Whether it is married life or any other kind of life, in every case a person can adopt two possible kinds of approach: the conciliatory approach and the non-conciliatory approach.
The conciliatory approach is in accordance with the law of nature, so it always works. While, the non-conciliatory approach is not in accordance with the law of nature. That is why it will never work, nether in married life nor in any…
One of the teachings of the Quran is mentioned in the chapter Al-Nisa’ (Women) in these words: As-sulh khair, that is, Settlement is best. (4:128)
Settlement is only the other name of adjustment. This Quranic verse refers to a law of nature. According to the law of nature, settlement is the best way of life. When you face any kind of difference with the other party, do not adopt the…
He was the only man in history who was supremely successful on both the religious and secular levels.
Peaceful method is a far more effective method.
Peace is the most successful policy.
Peace is the most successful policy.

…The Quran wants to put an end to this kind of negative mentality. In the chapter Al-‘Imran (The Family of Imran), the Quran gives us a very important piece of guidance on this subject. The translation of the relevant verse is as follows:
Whenever something good happens to you, it grieves them; but when evil befalls you, they rejoice. If you persevere and fear God, their conspiracies will never harm you in the least: God encompasses all that they do. (3:120)
This Quranic verse reveals a law of nature. It is a universal law and it is applicable everywhere and at all times. Everyone can follow this advice and solve the problem of conspiracy.
…dishonour them.” (Ibn Asakir, Tarikh Dimashq, Vol. 13, p. 313) He also said, “The perfect man of religion excels in character. The best among you is he who gives the best treatment to his womenfolk.” (Sunan At Tirmidhi, Hadith No. 1162)
Islam confers on women all the political and social rights that man enjoys. She is entitled to all the privileges a man also has. The Quran says, “O humanity! Fear your Lord, who created you from a single soul. He created its mate from it, and the two spread countless men and women (throughout the earth). Fear God, in whose name you appeal to one another, and be mindful of your obligations regarding kinship ties.” (4:1)
From these verses, we can see that a man and a woman were created from equal parts, and from them, both progenies spread. It also tells humanity to respect one another and fear God in this matter.
The Obligations and
Rights of Women
Both, a woman and a man are obliged to believe in the oneness of God, without which there is no salvation. Both men and women are also required to say the obligatory prayers and keep the fasts. A woman who is sufficiently capable and talented may earn her livelihood outside the home. Islam attaches particular importance to morality and exhorts both men and women to be morally responsible to each other and, most importantly, to God.
For the first time in human history, women were given their due legal rights, thanks to Islam, which specifies that property must be divided among the rightful heirs, which included women. A woman can possess a property separately, and…
…form of worship when a person faced with differences and conflict prevents himself from being consumed by feelings of enmity and revenge. Only by doing so is he able to adhere to the way of justice, even when differences seem overwhelming.
Differences are no evil. What is evil is a person not dealing with differences in an appropriate way, such as would ensure his passing the divine test. Going in fear of God despite there being differences is a great Islamic act. Not going in fear of God at the time of differences is grievously un-Islamic.
